Why do people say waxing makes the hair grow back finer?

It's not true! I waxed for over a year and now the hairs on my legs are even thicker, yes thicker! I always had hardly any hair on my thighs, and now I do, and my bikini area now travels down my inner thigh and is course hair! To top it all off, the hairs have grown back darker! Sorry just letting off some steam lol!Why do people say waxing makes the hair grow back finer?
You've been really unlucky.

I'm a regular male waxee and I can say from experience that different parts of my body have reacted differently to repeated waxings in tems of finer, sparser and slower re-growth on a scale from no change but no worse to a good combination of all the above three effects of waxing.

I would strongly recommend investing in professional salon waxing rather than doing it yourself - it could be the direction you're pulling the hair out is stimulating your follicles rather than supressing them. At least go to a salon for a few times to learn the technique. Alternatively, there are courses where you can learn waxing technique - I presume they're meant so you can learn to wax others but you're bound to get something out of it.

Also, may I suggest Kalo - it's a hair regrowth inhibitor made by Nisim ( http://www.nisim.com ) and available in the UK from http://www.body4real.com . This may help your problem. Why do people say waxing makes the hair grow back finer?
bikini area grown back darker?????? now that i gotta see
lol
It doesn't grow back finer, just slower. It's supposed to give you about a month in between waxings. Nair also has this effect, except it's more like a week and less painful. My mom waxes her legs and certain hairs grow back long before the others. It's amusing to see.
what you're saying is true. thats why people should start waxing and such later
oh......maybe it doesn't work on some poeple
because when you wax its suppose to pull the root of the hair makeing it grow back finer in some cases. hope i helped! =)
maybe that wouldve' happened even if you didn't wax
it could b Ur hormones becoz when u wax it kills off the root and eventually the hair doesn't grow back either that or u just been snappin the hair when wax in and not pullin the hair out
Looks like the wax just supplied it with Nutrients. LOL
Just think how you would have been if you had not waxed !!!
if that's the case i'm glad i never tried it thanks...
i dont whats wrong with u , but waxing makes hair thinner i have been waxing my chest for 14 months , hairs r now thinner
it does usually grow back finer and slower but if you wax where the hairs are fine anyway it stimulates the hair follicle so it comes back course and thick and like you said darker best thing is to use hair removal cream as it dosent stimulate the hair follicle as much and it leaves your legs or whatever really smooth and it dont hurt
i had a bakini wax a while ago.

it turned out quite good i thought.

my bakini line is quite visible withoutt waxingg it.

X
well your hormones may have changed somehow, causing your hairs to grow back thicker. this would most likely be the case if you're like still a teen. it probably has nothing to do with the waxing.
